Homeland Defense: A Modest Proposal

from the too-close-to-reality dept

David Holtzman’s latest column is a “modest proposal” for homeland defense, describing an all encompassing system that links up all sorts of information about you (from government agencies and commercial databases) ties it in with cameras and sensors that are placed everywhere – and pops out a “terror threat score” that is assigned to each person. While it’s clearly a satirical piece, the scary part is that we’re not all that far from this situation right now, and certainly some law enforcement officials seem to think that a system like this really does make sense.
