EchoStar's DirecTV Bid Blocked By FCC

from the nice-try dept

The FCC apparently was not swayed by EchoStar’s attempt to delay their decision as they worked on “major revisions” of their merger proposal with DirecTV. Instead, the FCC has voted against the merger. With the Justice Department expected to vote against the merger also, things don’t look good. No matter what, the FCC says they’ll refuse to transfer the necessary licenses. Of course, this means that Rupert Murdoch may be back in the picture, stepping in (once again) to try to buy up DirecTV.
