ISPs Getting Plenty Of Subpoenas

from the privacy-schmivacy dept

ISPs around the US are saying that they’re getting a ton of subpoenas from law enforcement agencies these days. Part of it is just due to education. Suddenly law enforcement is realizing that looking through ISP records may have information pertinent to a case they’re working on. Of course, changes in US law following Septemeber 11th, has also made it easier to subpoena info. However, it’s becoming something of a nuisance for ISPs, and some are now charging agencies that subpoena them for the work required to comply.
