Corner Grocer Goes Biometric

from the your-finger-please dept

If you thought that those supermarket “membership” cards were bad for people’s privacy, you’ll just love the latest trend. More and more grocery stores are setting up fingerprinting systems before they’ll take a check from a customer. The system records the customers’ fingerprints, pictures, drivers licenses, social security numbers, and copies of every check they’ve used at the store previously. In other words, a privacy nightmare. I would think that someone who wants to commit identity theft would clearly target one of those machines to get access to all that information.
