Universal's New Anti-Piracy Measure… Pirated?
from the ah,-the-complications-of-intellectual-property dept
There was lots of buzz last week when Universal announced their “fan friendly” anti-piracy plans for the new Bon Jovi album (it’s so tempting to make a joke about the need to “protect” a Bon Jovi album, but I won’t bother…). The idea was that folks who buy the CD get a bunch of extra features with it that go beyond just the music. It’s a great idea and one that people (including me) have been recommending for quite a while. Now, however, a company called DownloadCard says that Universal has stolen the idea from them. Yes, that’s right. This anti-piracy method has been allegedly pirated. Enjoy the irony.

I am no security super-genius, but I fail to see the copy-protection in an 8-digit pin number. THis has nothing to do with copy-protection, but should be associated with direct marketing. The journalist made the copy-protection association and everyone fell for it.
