Sun Bets The Company On N1

from the moving-forward... dept

With all the talk about Microsoft’s plans for next generation computing systems, here comes Sun with their own goals. It seems that Sun has been working furiously on a project called N1, which is sort of grid computing on steroids. It’s designed to do away with many of the issues involved in having many different computers networked together. Under N1, it seems, all those computers begin to act as a single computer, grabbing whichever resources it needs for whichever project. In other words, Sun may finally be living up to their slogan “the network is the computer”. Sun is basically betting the company that N1 will become the way that computers work in the future. Definitely an interesting read. Update: Silicon.com has just a few more details, and says Sun is planning to outline its N1 program on Thursday.
