Massive Credit Card Theft Suspected

from the stupid-test dept

It appears that someone got ahold of a large number (140,000) credit card numbers recently, and decided to test them out by running them all through the merchant account of one small e-commerce company. They put a charge of $5.07 on each one. The company normally only gets five to 30 orders a day, so 140,000 is a bit noticeable. Plus, people who noticed the $5.07 charge started calling to find out who the hell they were. Of course, it does seem a bit silly to test all the cards this way. It’s a really obvious move, and should be quickly noticed by all those with compromised cards.
