How The Recording Industry Is Killing The Goose That Lays The Golden Eggs
from the facts?--what-facts? dept
As many people know, I have very strong feelings about how the music industry is killing themselves by trying to stamp out file sharing (whereas, the industry thinks the opposite). Dan Bricklin (found via Dan Gillmor) has written a good essay talking about the many reasons why the music industry is wrong. He discusses the evidence that many people buy more music after downloading songs. He also suggests other reasons why aggregate music sales have gone down (such as people who talk on cell phones to kill time instead of listening to a portable CD player). A good read that the music industry will, of course, deny. They’re so completely set on their viewpoint, it’s scary. Folks like Bricklin are telling them that if they just stopped and realized it, they’re actually hurting themselves more by trying to prevent file sharing.
