File Sharing Still Confusing The Experts

from the flip...-flop dept

A few months back we posted an interview with well known economist Stan Liebowitz where he said he was changing his mind about file sharing. A few months before he had written a study saying it was bad for the music industry. But, in June, he said the evidence didn’t support that, and file sharing wasn’t bad for the industry. Now that he’s been looking at more data he says, oh wait, maybe it is bad for the industry. If anything, this flip flopping should cast some doubt on his conclusions, and this interview does nothing to help his case. A few times he admits that he hasn’t run certain statistics that might be helpful, and he also admits that some of his conclusions are “going out on a limb” and based on some assumptions that don’t seem to have any support in reality.
