Autism Link To Geek Genes

from the sounds-familiar dept

Back in December we posted a story about higher rates of autism among geeks. It seems the British have no picked up on this as well, as the BBC (via dsg, yet again) has an article about how geeks are more likely to have “autism genes”. Basically, those with varying degrees of autism may be drawn to the tech industry, since their skills can be put to good use. Then you have a higher concentration of male and female geeks with autistic genes, making it more likely for them to mate… and produce even more autistic children. As an aside, I’ll post again (as I did with the original story) that you should pick up Speaking With the Angel, which is a good collection of short stories (having nothing to do with autism). However, some of the proceeds of the book go to help fund a school for autistic children.
