What Makes A Great Leader
from the long-term-thinking dept
In general, I don’t trust most “management theorists”. However, two who have shown that they usually know what they’re talking about are Clayton Christensen (writer of The Innovators Dilemma, which very few management type folks seem to understand) and Jim Collins (writer of Good to Great). Business 2.0 put both of them on a panel together and asked them about what makes a good leader and a successful company. The answers basically boil down to the importance of long term thinking in building a company. Realize that the company is in for the long haul – and not the quick buck. That also means realizing that the world is always changing, and part of being around for the long haul means a lot of hard work and taking a number of calculated risks.
