Mystery Shopper Goes High Tech

from the spying-as-a-way-of-life dept

It seems that the “mystery” shopper program is going high tech. More and more companies are using mystery shoppers equipped with a hidden camera to record everything that happens. This takes out much of the paperwork that mystery shoppers used to have to do and (obviously) gives a much more accurate picture of what happened to store management. I was just thinking, though, with all the emphasis on “surveillance” these days, how long will it be before our government is encouraging everyone to be a “mystery citizen”. Think of how much info the FBI could gather if just about everyone started walking around with hidden video cameras, recording everything straight into an FBI database. And, obviously, anyone who refused to do so would clearly be guilty of having something to hide.
