Wireless Finance Versus Wireless Formats
An interesting column over at Red Herring talks about how the suits need to talk to the ponytails for wireless to be successful. Basically, he’s saying that despite all the big financial calculations that have gone into setting up 3G services, the real success will be determined by some random entertainment product that the fickle consumers will converge on – and it’s nearly impossible to figure out which random bit of entertainment will make them go nuts. While the financial bean counters like to talk about all the benefits of wireless data, they’re going to be totally reliant on the creative ponytails to come up with that silly game/contest/content/who-knows-what that drives people to use 3G services.
