Its Official: Microsoft Snags AT&T

Yesterday’s rumor of a Micrsoft and AT&T Wireless deal is now official. AT&T is now one four US wireless carriers that has agreed to support Microsoft powered wireless devices. In addition AT&T will incorprate .Net services such as MapPoint. At this point the only US carriers of note missing from Microsoft’s roster are Nextel and Cingular, but we suspect that Cingular will come on board before the end of the year. Nextel could take longer since they would need to commission a PocketPC device for their iDen network.Update: News.com updated their article after we posted and added that AT&T has limited time exclusivity on easy service activation and one-button sync with outlook. We’re assuming they mean wireless sync. Which, based on my most recent GPRS bill, could be really expensive.
