Q2'02 Subscriber Growth Wrap Up
The second quarter of 2002 was good to a few carriers, particularly to the big guys. Verizon, Cingular and Nextel all beat their numbers while AT&T, Sprint and Leap missed theirs. This is a bit of a reversal from previous quarters, a sign that the smaller players’ acquisition strategies have run their course and Verizon and Cingular retaliated with new pricing and incentives. Both carriers tend to be more expensive that their smaller rivals, but do have better coverage.
