The Danger Of Good Intentions

from the legislating-under-ignorance dept

I guess it’s true what they say about everything looking like a nail, when you have a hammer. Any problem that comes up, and Congress looks for how to legislate it away. Here’s an interesting opinion piece that looks at how the best intentions of our representatives may screw up consumers’ privacy rights, much more than help it. Basically, he’s saying that our representatives simply don’t understand the real consequences of what they’re doing. Perhaps I’m a bit more cynical, but I tend to believe that these guys know what they’re doing – and they’re doing it to pay back the large corporations who got them elected in the first place.
