RealNetworks Shifts Gears
from the strategic-changes dept
Tom writes “The New York Times (registration required) has a very interesting article on RealNetworks streaming media strategy. It seems the company is changing their server product to allow it to dish out a multitude of protocols, including Windows Media. Additionaly, they are apparently opening the source through a community license. Will these moves allow them to stay relevant now that Microsoft is bundling their media player and server with XP? Or are we witnessing the beginnings of the next Netscape?” For those of you opposed to the NY Times, you can read about it in a few other places as well.

Hmmm
Media Player vs. Real Player. Hmmm. No contest. Real Player is awful ! The stream technology is bad and the player and interface is ad ridden and icky.
Microsoft just did it better one more time.
