FCC Pushes Back Number Portability Deadline

Last week we mentioned that the FCC was likely to extend the deadline to implement wireless number portability. Today they passed their ruling and pushed back the dead line one year to November 2003. Tom Wheeler the CEO of CTIA said, “Today’s number portability decision is a step in the right direction, but the real destination is lifting the burden from consumers altogether, not just delaying it.” Consumer burden? As far as I can see the only ones burdened by number portability are wireless carriers. I suspect consumers would love number portability. It should be a feature Tom, not a bug.
