Pay At The Pump… With Your Phone

from the finally dept

People have been talking about buying stuff with mobile phones for years, but it’s yet to show up in any large scale in the US. The latest attempt is a trial at a number of gas stations that will let people buy gas with their mobile phones. They just need to dial a phone number, which will give them a code to plug in. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they put the charge on the phone bill. Instead, the user has to “sign up” and provide a bank account or a credit card – which means it’s less likely to get quick acceptance. That extra step, and providing such info (that people don’t like to give out) may hinder acceptance.
