FCC Likley to Delay Wireless Number Portability

The FCC is likley to extend the deadline for wireless carriers to support wireless number portability. The deadline could be pushed as far back as 18-24 months. The long delay is an admission by the FCC that the US wireless market doesn’t need any more competitive pressure for the moment. We think that they are delaying to see how mergers play out after the elimination of spectrum caps. Number portabilty will be passed to relieve consumer advocate concerns in light of inevitable consolidation.
