Vodafone To Launch Photo MMS In The Fall

Vodafone plans to launch MMS this fall in seven European markets. The service will be similar to J-Phone’s successful Sha-Mail service. At the same time Vodafone CEO, Chris Gent, hinted that Vodafone could push back its 3G launch to 2004. Vodafone and T-Mobile ,which has already launched its UK MMS service, are doing something carriers rarely do, launching applications, rather than technologies. MMS is a great use of GPRS. GPRS is not 3G, but its here now and barely utilized. Carriers need to extract as much value from GPRS before moving onto to 3G (at least for data).
