CyberWar Is Hell… Unless You're Selling Security Software

from the then-it's-just-damn-good-business dept

The Register has a Security Focus article taking the various anti-virus and security companies to task for publishing “independent reports” saying that cyberterrorist attacks were imminent. The rerports were thinly veiled marketing tools by the security companies looking to sell more software, but (like any good cyberattack story) the press picked up on it, crying wolf all the way about how vulnerable we are. This isn’t to suggest that we might not be vulnerable – but, the fact that the reports come from the security companies themselves, has to at least make you want to do an independent assessment.
