Putting Ethics Back Into The CEO
from the a-big-job dept
There have been a number of big name CEOs recently who have found themselves in serious legal trouble. Business Week takes a look at why so many big company CEOs seem to lack basic ethics these days. A lot of it has to do with the lack of oversight, and the new image of the big company CEO as the “rockstar” of the new economy. There is way too much emphasis on short term results, leading CEOs to cut corners to make themselves look better (while padding their bank accounts, in case things don’t). As if to go along with this story Fortune is running a huge story about Global Crossing’s Chairman, Gary Winnick, who they label “The Emperor of Greed”. As his company was falling apart, he set up multiple deals to make sure he cashed out with nearly a billion dollars.
