Nextel has always gone its own way when compared to other wireless carries. So it should be no surprise that they are investigating a number of alternative paths to offer highspeed data. But part of the reason they are investigating alternatives is because they are in more debt than their competitors. They need to find a solution that will keep them competitive without breaking the bank. By going their own way they could end up with a highly differentiated offering like Direct Connect.
