Hacking Contest Gone Wrong

from the no,-no,-no,-you're-supposed-to-hack-this-server dept

It seems some hackers got fed up with a “hacking contest” put on by a Korean company. Saying that the contest server wasn’t set up under real world conditions, they went ahead and hacked the registration server for the contest itself. They say they got access to all the information from everyone who registered, and can change it at will. They even pointed out that they can simply change the “winners” contact information to their own. The whole thing sounds sketchy. There were also issues of the company suddenly lowering the prize money with no explanation – and asking at least one of the “winners” for his bank account info. Makes you wonder what’s really going on.
