Euro Wireless Carriers: If Mom Says No, Ask Dad
This week representatives from 18 European wireless carriers went to Brussels to lobby the European Commission for some relief that they aren’t getting at home. Local regulators are making it hard to take steps that would ease the launch of 3G services in light of the ridiculous prices paid for 3G spectrum. The EC maybe able to help to some degree, but ultimately what the carriers need is a refund, which they are not going to get. Europe needs 3G’s voice capacity (way more than wireless streaming video). But it’s not going to happen if the carriers can’t afford to build the networks.
