MMS Follows the Lead of SMS

Ovum has released a new study on the likley global growth of MMS service. Europe will the first region to see MMS service with launches this year. Japan and Korea already have MMS-like services and MMS will roll-out in select Asia-Pacific GSM markets over the next few years. North America will be the laggard as it is still getting on the SMS bandwagon and will probably not have any MMS services till late 2003. The three biggest factors determining the success of MMS launches will likely be the cost of the service (probably much higher than SMS), availability of handsets and roll out of MMS infrastructure.
