25% Of Mobile Phone Thefts Are Faked

from the insurance-scams dept

It turns out that nearly 25% of all reports of mobile phone thefts are faked – mostly as part of an insurance scam. The best story in the article is of one (apparently not so bright) scam artist who called to report a stolen mobile phone – from that very mobile phone. When told by the operator that the phone # was on the switchboard display, the caller quickly hung up. Brilliant.
