Profitable Dot Coms?

from the do-they-exist? dept

Business Week has an article looking at public dot coms to see where the profitable companies are. They find 52 public internet companies that are profitable (out of 456 that went public since 1994). That number should really be cut down to 208, if you cut out companies that have gone out of business or that have been acquired – meaning 25% of internet companies still in business (by themselves) are profitable today. The best industry is the travel industry, but overall, companies that deal in any sort of information or data tend to be in better situations than companies that actually ship goods.
