SonicBlue Forced To Spy On Users

from the bad-news dept

Where do we find these judges? I’m amazed at the number of absolutely horrible court rulings recently. The latest is that a district court has told SonicBlue that they have 60 days to write software to spy on users of the ReplayTV device. This is part of the lawsuit of the various broadcasters against SonicBlue. The broadcasters wanted information on how people use ReplayTV in order to make their case. SonicBlue says they don’t track that information because it’s an invasion of privacy. So, the court has basically said privacy doesn’t matter when a corporation wants the info. This is a bad precedent if it’s allowed to stand.
