US Shuts Down One Spam Scam

from the and-sixty-others-pop-up dept

I’m not sure how much of a dent the FTC is having on spammers, but every once in a while they’re announcing some sort of legal action. The latest is shutting down a spam operation that sent out emails promising a free Sony Playstation. Apparently, they told people to go to a website to claim their prize – and at the website they had to download some software. The software then connected them to a porn site at $3.99/minute. That goes beyond just being a “spam” case, I would think. Though, I still wonder, who actually believes a spam message telling someone they’ve won a Sony Playstation?
