Voicestream Not For Sale
Deutsche Telecom denied rumors that Voicestream was for sale. The rumors started after The New York Post reported that DT had hired investment bankers to investigate options for Voicestream. Voicestream is the sixth largest wireless carrier in the US and the smallest of the national carriers. Analysts are predicting that the industry must consolidate given pricing pressure and new subscriber slowdowns. With AT&T Wireless and Cingular switching to GSM, the technology Voicestream uses, acquiring Voicesteam could accelerate each carrier’s network conversion plans. But a sale anytime soon is unlikely because no carrier could match the nearly $30 billion that DT payed for Voicestream.
