AT&T Subscriber Growth
AT&T Wireless reported their first quarter numbers today and beat analyst predictions on subscriber growth by adding 650,000 new subscribers. But despite the new subscribers, they posted a $16 million loss for the quarter. In an effort to cut costs, the carrier plans to reduce handset subsidies, which is a common theme throughout the industry this year. If the company continues to post strong subscriber growth and weak financials in the upcoming quarters, rumors of a merger with competitor Cingular will likely resurface.
