Grid-Googling Part II

from the it's-official dept

Three weeks ago we posted an article about Google letting people use spare cycles for Folding@Home through their toolbar application – but it appeared to be a closed beta that no one who wasn’t already included could use. Now Google is finally talking about the “experiment” at adding distributed or grid-computing applications to their toolbar. They claim that this is just to help out with various research projects – and they have no plans (at this time) to use it to make money (though, they might try to put it to work on some search problems that would be helpful for them).
