Thousands Of Pakistanis Looking To Move To Virtual Country

from the might-get-crowded dept

It’s a nice place to visit, but I’m not sure I’d want to live there… A few years ago we posted an article about people creating online countries, and it seems that they’re suddenly growing in popularity. Despite “existing” since 1996, the virtual country of Ladonia has suddenly been receiving all sorts of interest from Pakistanis who are trying to find out how to become citizens. The guy who created the country is upset that he’s given people “false hope”, and had removed the application for citizenship from the website. I just checked the site, and it appears the application is back up – but with a clear disclaimer that even if you are a citizen of Ladonia, you cannot live there. What’s not clear from the article is how Ladonia suddenly became so popular in Pakistan.
