Copyright Dictators Winning Out

from the of-course-they-are dept

Dan Gillmor’s latest column pointing out a bit of the obvious. The publishing and entertainment industry has been bending and molding copyright and intellectual property law to their desires over the past few decades – and we consumers are the ones who are losing out. People have been saying this for a while now, but it’s not going to stop the companies from getting legislators to pass more laws in their favor. Everyone keeps saying that we need to “fight” back, but very few people have come with ways how. This is why I’m very interested to see how Lawrence Lessig’s new gig goes – because I’m unsure that stomping our feet and complaining is actually going to get anything done. Of course, the Supreme Court is now looking into the matter, but I’m not convinced this will actually change anything.
