Craig Venter Steps Down From Celera

from the wow dept

To many people Craig Venter is Celera. So, it’s quite a surprise to hear that he’s stepping down from his post as President of the company that mapped the human genome. Venter is famous for not being the nicest guy around, but at the same time getting stuff done. It’s amusing to read the descriptions of him, even in positive articles. I think “brash” is the adjective of choice among many reporters. It’ll be interesting to see how people react to his leaving. The Washington Post has an article with more details. The Wall Street Journal (not linked due to the charge) says that Venter was pushed out by the board who had grown sick of him.
