Smoke And Get A Cheap PC

from the interesting-advertising-ploys dept

Remember PeoplePC? The company that started out offering consumers PC’s with internet access for $22/month? When the consumer market didn’t come banging down their door, they discovered (accidentally, they’ve admitted) a much better market in corporate sales – where they helped companies like Ford offer the PCs to their employees. Of course, Ford eventually ditched that program, and so now PeoplePC is helping smokers get computers. They’ve signed a deal with R.J. Reynolds for people who smoke a certain brand of cigarettes to be able to get a cheap PC through PeoplePC. I wonder if it comes with a retractable ash tray? Most of the linked article talks about how tobacco companies are looking at new and different ways to advertise online.
