Fiftieth Anniversary Of Computers And Business
from the all-started-with-pies dept
Apparently we’ve reached the fiftieth anniversary of computers being used in businesses. Interestingly, the first “business computer” was built by a catering company, Lyons, to help them evaluate the costs, prices and margins for that week’s output of bread, cakes and pies. The company eventually spun off a computing company called LEO that (you’ll notice) isn’t around today. So much for that “first mover advantage”.

Leo
Yes, but the company that made Leo turned into ICL who were around until fairly recently at least as a name. They probably lasted longer than, say, DEC.
