Telepresence Robots

from the creepy dept

An article in Scientific American about some new telepresence robots that will allow you to control a robot in a meeting somewhere far away. It’s the next step in videoconferencing. Instead of just being able to see what a single camera shows, you’ll be able to control a robot and let it move around and look at different things – and it all runs over the internet. Sounds interesting, but I don’t know how many people would actually use it. As the writer says, I also might have difficulty keeping a straight face sitting next to a robot in a meeting. Besides, if you’re not paying attention to the person speaking it suddenly becomes a lot more obvious.
