Are Web Services Really Coming?

from the who-the-hell-knows dept

A lot of people have been talking about how “web services” is the next big revolution, and yet, many people still don’t know what the hell web services means. Partly, that’s because it means a lot of different things, depending on who you’re talking to. That’s only one of a bunch of questions that need to be answered before web services have a chance to be successful. I definitely think it’s an interesting shift, but the people who really really believe in web services need to do a better job explaining what they are and why they’re helpful. Most people I know who are “true believers” in web services seem to act like the benefits of web services are so obvious that only an idiot wouldn’t see what was happening. Either there are a lot of idiots out there, or no one has really been able to explain web services clearly.
