Topic Of The Month: Remote Printing

from the who-knew-it-was-such-a-big-deal? dept

It was just last week we spoke about the “PrintMe” standard that was being endorsed by a number of companies (including Adobe) to allow people to print from whatever device they had to any print shop that had a PrintMe enabled device. Now, Adobe has announced their PDF Transit software, which appears targeted at the same market. With the PDF transit software, any user will be able to locate a nearby printshop and print out whatever they are working on. Of course, the document will be transmitted in PDF format to avoid having to deal with version problems and different fonts and formatting (though, my experience with PDF formating has shown that it doesn’t always come out the way you want either). It’s unclear if the PDF Transit and PrintMe offerings are designed to work together, but it would be pretty shortsighted if they didn’t.
