Palo Alto Parents Forced To Buy Kids Laptops
from the pissed-off-parents dept
Many parents of sixth-grade students in Palo Alto are pissed off. The local public school has told them they should buy their kids a $2,000 laptop, and many parents are unhappy about the situation. Even though the school has said it is “optional”, it doesn’t feel optional to many. Apparently, the school ran a pilot program last year with sixth-graders using laptops, and found that the kids did much better in their schoolwork. However, forcing people to pay two grand seems a bit steep. This sounds like the sort of thing that the school should try to get donated from a local tech company (as if the local tech companies were actually donating stuff). Maybe they should just call up Gordon Moore who seems to have plenty of cash to throw around these days.
