Commerce One Laying Off Half

Remember when Commerce One could do no wrong? The stock kept going up, and everyone I knew talked about how they wanted to work there. At one point they had 3,700 employees. Right now they have 2,800 and have just announced that 1,300 of those jobs are about to go away. Some of it is due to the purchase of AppNet, which never really made much sense in the first place. The rest is due to the fact that no one (and I do mean no one) wants their software any more. The bottom completely fell out of their market – and it’s unclear how they’re going to rebound.
