Should We Push Technology In Schools?

from the the-debate-rages-on dept

A few weeks ago, I posted an article about a guy who feels that not only is technology not being used well in schools, we should forget all about using computers in the classroom, because they cause more problems than they solve. Instead we should focus on creating a better education system with better teachers and forget about technology. Now, here’s an article from McKinsey recommending a path to put more technology in schools. I still understand both arguments, and I think they could work together. Obviously, the overall education system needs to be examined, but there are probably benefits to using technology in schools that can help solve many current education problems. The problem is that we’re probably just going to throw a bunch of computers with net connections into classrooms, give teachers a couple hours worth of training and say “get to it”. That will probably be a waste of money.
