The End Of Local News

from the it's-all-national-now dept

An interesting look at how the web is changing the concept of “local news”. It’s much tougher these days for a city newspaper to survive, as many people turn to the internet for national news. The article suggests that we may end up with niche news sources that focus on a certain community that doesn’t have to do with geographical boundaries. So, for instance, the San Jose Mercury news has already become the news for people interested in technology. Other newspapers might need to start fidning their own niche. Of course, this leaves out the fact that people based in geographical regions are a community of their own.
