The Case Of Armani vs. A.R. Mani

from the cybersquatting-or-cyber-arrogance dept

Armani went after an artist for registering the domain name armani.com, saying he was cybersquatting. The problem is that the guys last name is Mani, and his first two initials are A.R. – which explains: ARMani.com. The WIPO arbitrators have sided with Mr. Mani after discovering that the Armani lawyers were careful to disguise the truth of the situation. Armani lawyers had said that Mr. Mani was clearly a cybersquatter, even though he made a completely reasonable counteroffer to their original offer to buy it from him (he wanted to make sure the price covered his cost to reprint his own stationery).
