Fry's Attempts Hostile Takeover Of Cyberian Outpost

from the that's-a-surprise dept

Fry’s (the sort of supermarket for geeks, which is popular here in California) has always had a bizarre online strategy. They basically had none. About a year ago they finally went online to offer DSL service, which seemed out of place. Now, however, they’ve made a hostile, unsolicited offer to buy Cyberian Outpost. Outpost, of course, had already agreed to be purchased by PC Connection – but for PC Connection stock. Fry’s is offering all cash. There seem to be benefits to both possible deals (PC Connection has better distribution systems and can probably buy wholesale at a better rate), but the Fry’s offer is more of a sure thing to shareholders.
