New Take On Banning Cell Phones
from the is-this-better? dept
Second story of the day about driver distractions. New Hampshire is looking at a law that doesn’t ban cell phones in cars, but does hold drivers accountable for driver distractions only if they cause an accident. I think this is a better approach than an outright ban, though I’m sure some people will say that this is more punitive after-the-fact punishment, rather than a prevention measure.

Enforce the laws already on the books...
This is just like all the other ‘creeping nanny-ism’ laws. Legislating for the purpose of behavior modification. It hasn’t worked for the others and it won’t work here.
What’s next, laws against your thoughts?
KISS
As mentioned in a previous post, in the UK we have a law that requires you to have two hands on the wheel. With such a simple law, we don’t need to keep updating it when new distractions come along. ie the advent of the mobile didn’t cause any new problems, it’s still illegal to use whilst driving.
