Managing Through The Downturn

from the what-do-we-do-now? dept

One comment I’ve heard from a few people is that the thing that scares them most about this “downturn” is the fact that many people in management positions have no experience with managing a downturn. Apparently, this fear is somewhat widespread. The Economist has an article suggesting how people should manage in a downturn and admits that it actually might make some parts of the job easier (such as hiring and retaining the really good workers). Of course, it also means that managers will have to make actual decisions (invest in this, cut this) rather than just going after everything when silly things like cost-benefit analysis didn’t matter.
